Our father, Who art in heaven

I saw my brother this weekend, my nieces are bigger!!! They made a better used of my pool, it was a lot of fun. We got to talk like family with my sister too, and I could feel they were really happy to see us. My parents took their flight back home this morning and, when they were over the gulf of mexico, the plane suffer a fall, a sudden drop, apparently some turbulence almost knocked the plane down. Some people fainted and they felt they were really bless to get home in one pice. I thank God for his mercy and for protecting my parents, and the people in that plane.. As soon as they got home, I was able to talk to them, and share what happened.
Also good news from my sister-in-law, they is a proud owner of a beauty place/spa,... nice eh... I pray to God for my family and thank him for his blessings. - Amen

Amazing article..

I personally enjoyed this article. It shows how the House of Representatives are interrelated, as expected everything moves to the Right with Republicans being partisan and Democrats more bipartisan. I still need to learn some more how network theory could be applied to practice, but if you have more interesting thoughts, I'd like to read them..

Update - on me

I am alive... yes I am, it's still raining... yes well, it has cleared out but still rains. I am still waiting for the guy with my hurricane shutters, no idea where they are or where they should be?

Engineeringwise, I made some progress, today I got news and I was nomitated for TPC .. Technical Programm Committe for a new conference, IEEE Wireless Pervasive Computing 2006 . I have a few papers assigned to review for IEEW WLN 2005..Weekend time!.

BTW, I submitted two papers one to the IEEE CCNC2006 and one more to IEEE LCN - Wireless & Performance (Abbrv name). I am also coding some Matlab simulations on .... CENSORED ... haha, ask me if you want to know what it is. I can't post the papers I submitted here yet, but I will in the future.

What a buncho of BS, what's wrong with this goverment? All of us, HOMEOWNERS, are now worried about investing in real estate, not even HOMESTEAD will save your home. Federal Law is greater than State Law, isn't that the case? The Supreme Court has.... I won't be redundant so please kick on this .reading

On a different note, I heard something on 90.3 MHz about music, they argue that somehow, music helps define the state of mind and indeed, there are certain patterns of songs that lead our minds to different states. Therefore, certain music is an absolute and certain music must be avoided because it goes against Christian faith. I diagree with this view, music is an absolute, it's evident that culture is definitely a huge factor determining if a song sounds appropriate or not.

Whenever I sing a christian song using what in my culture I am familiar with. As an example, "Deutschland Deutschland Uber Alles" became the symbol of the Nazi germany... a solemn song that now represents death and antisemitism.... I understand that certain songs match certain pattern behaviours, but there is not a black and white thing. Our audible spectrum is about 20 KHz, if create all possible combinatios of all possible audible tones with the same duration, we would have 20 000! (factorial) combinations with could be combined again with all possible durations of each note... there are hence, millions of combinations and sounds that humans can still create. I don't see any space for absolutes, we have barely created music....

Organization of American States (OAS) Summit

The OEA (Organizacion de Estados Americanos) or OAS has a summit this week in Ft. Lauderdale. Many US-Latin American issues will be discussed. Democracy, ousted presidents (Ecuador, Bolivia), widespread violeance in Haiti, Poverty, Free trade. In fact, President Bush will be at the meeting supporting CAFTA (Cental American Free Trade Agreement).

An MSBNC link Link. Some people is planning to protest look this.

Personally. I want barriers made to many products to be lifted, but I don't want any artificial subsidising or price dumping done by mega corporations. Small business need to take this as an opportunity not a threat and see how to take advantage of the new regulatory regime for trade. Unfortunatly, the treaty says very little on how societies will get benefited directed with globalization. It's assumed that Globalization will fix things thru new markets and new competitors. This was the assumption we had in 1988 when the new doctrine called, neoliberalism, started in S.America. What we see today is a mixture of failures, an explosion of poverty, and some successful stories. Globalization must value human resources and not abuse of it, creating modern or 21st century slaves.

Rainy Day

It's been rainy all weekend. Friday, I missed a Gypsy Kings concert in Boca Raton which I thought it was going to be cancelled but it was not. Despite of the weather, Me and my friends went out to "Las Olas" Blvd, a place here in Ft. Lauderdale. While there, it didn't rain....;-) We walked around the area and stopped for some drinks at "Cafe Europa." As soon as We left the downtown area, at around 12:30pm it started raining again.

Today, I spent most of the day fixing an HP Pavilion laptop with a damaged power Jack. What a pain!!! 42 screws, and lots of parts to remove just to get to the power connector area. Since, I don't have surface mount equipment, I had to rely on my old Weller soldering iron to get the job done. I could not find the perfect replacement jack for the laptop and I had to get a Size "N" DC Power Jack from Radio Shack (about $3) and solder the jumpers where I thought the 19.6 V power had to feed the laptop's motherboard.. Voila the Laptop came back to life. BTW, I don't know why people at Radio Shack in Coral Springs, has such an attitude problem.

In the afternoon, I went to get the laptop back to the owner, just to find out that the laptop's owner is having some family problems, If you read this include him in your prayers. On a different good note, I also visited my indian friend's new Kwik Stop store. He's doing great but he seems to be busy most of the time. As far as I can tell, I see he does not own a job, he owns a business!

Let's see if tonight I get my hands on some Matlab and finish some projects I have not completed.

Catecismo (en espanol)

Mis amigos de ESCOGE (saludos al CHICHO aka Josue Perdomo)

en Honduras, han puesto en su sitio web el catecismo en formato PDF y en MS WORD . No They don't have an english version yet (sorry).

Paradigm Shift?

Will this require a paradigm shift? In the past we used to be tied to fixed variables of time, speed, load, etc. Today's technology and processes are fast, data is complex, and relying on one source or a simgle result might lead developers and engineers to failure. I found this interesting post in EETimes on IBM Statistical Timer Analysis

Bluetooth I-Mates and much more

I got my i-Mate with a Bluetoth headset (Motorola HS 810) now working, it's not that great. Sometimes you cannot get a call through that easy. I like the camere on my i-Mate, other than that, if you had a Pocket PC, it's basically the same thing but with a GSM phone. I started using tasks, alarms, and other cool features in this thing. I maybe be writting some apps as well, so be patient. I haven not tried WiFi yet but I will.

BTW, I was playing around with my friend's Power Book from Apple, and it's just phenomenal.... everything is well-configured and in good shape.

If you have any cool ideas of what to do with your Mobile phones with camera and Bluetooth, drop me an email.

The Beauty and the Geek

The Beauty and the Geek ... Is this the show where "Smart meets dumb, social meets anti-social " (I stole this phrase from Victor Yuen) :-). It's amazing how in today's society, intelligence and good feelings, have a lower value to money and looks.

Hehehe, as you can read from my profile, I sound like a geek. In fact, one of my favorite movies is REAL GENIUS but I consider myself a renovated geek...why? because, at least I try to blend in.... 5 yrs ago, I made a huge effort to learn how to dance, I knew nothing about that subject before, but I finally made improvements!!! It helped some epxanding social life, unfortunately as soon as I open my mouth the geek comes out of me and then I have high chances to be OUT.... HEHEHEH

I laugh when I listen girls chatting about guys and saying: " Ohh I want a good looking, nice, good-hearted, Christian, honest, and intelligent man," hahaha that's what they say, but not what they do. I would say that 4 out of 5 girls will dump a guy matching that description. Why? I am not a woman, don't ask me.... I have no idea.

What I do know, and I've been thru, is that you WILL greately reduce your chances for a 2nd date or even cutting short "the date" you are currently in, If you DO NOT filter out geek talk... My advice, boring but effective, is to read some magazines.. the ones you never read, no no, not "The Economist" or "Smart Money," but by simple observation, go to Borders or B&N and look what 93% in the bell curve reads.. Pick them up and make an effort to memorize as much as you possible can.

If you did find, Jordan Cochran (Real Genius geek babe), somewhere in your life..... assuming she likes you to, see if you can talk to her, maybe she talks to you back, and voila!!!! if not, well..... go back to the drawing board. Maybe, she's looking for an alternative lifestyle far away form geeks too.

I'll keep an eye on that show but might not be a fan of it... who knows, maybe thru TV, people can realize that geeks have hearts too.

Mistakes and Learning

There is no winning without loosing, there is no success without failure? A life of contradictions, isn't it?

Even though, mistakes are part of life. We cannot generalize, and "make mistakes" the center of our lives. One cannot have a life full of mistakes. In this universe of people, some learn quickly from failure and understand in detail their weaknesses and strenghts, some don't seem to get it.

The dilemma is: How do we determine, what mistakes are part of the learning process? then? Why some mistakes might not be good to make? Simply because mistakes can be costly. Wars, for example, will kill thousands of individuals, and today's weapons of mass destruction could blow the whole earth in minutes.

In my particular case, I use my faith to determine what mistakes are not good to make. God printed them in stone as the ten commandments and Jesus summarized them well as "Love others as you love yourself." (link)

Unless, we preserve the fundamental Christian principle, stated above, as part of our decision-making process, our errors will be useless and potentially dangerous for ourselves and others.

Why am I analyzing "The mistake issue"? Well, as I am reading, Robert Kiyosaki portrays business mistakes as a good thing, and in many business practices, mistakes are key elements to learn specially in a guestimated business environment.

As I made my analysis on this subject, and how generalization of the "mistake" concept was a conclusion easily made by the reader. The reader could get actually convinced that making mistakes is a well-founded justification for learning and hence a great thing, but as depicted in this paragraph it might not be.

I decided to post this in my blog to clarify this issue, if not, comment or email me ;).
